Did you know that butterflies breathe through the tiny holes in the back of their bodies? Did you know that if plants didn’t breathe, we would also have nothing to breathe? A sensorial performance Little Creatures by Theatre of Senses was created for children with special sensorial needs and their families, as well as for families with 4–9 y. o. children. A story about a life of a meadow and its inhabitants (caterpillars, bees, flowers) is told through various sensorial means. Each family gets a set of tools – a box with their own private cocoon, a funny caterpillar, some clanging butterfly eggs, wind-catching wings and other things slowly blending into the narrative. The story is followed by its own music, created specifically for this performance. These calm tunes peacefully carry one’s imagination into colourful landscapes. Creators have based this performance on a DIR Floortime method of working with children with special needs, as well as on the experience of their own experiments. The purpose of this imaginative performance is to help those who probably have never been to the theatre feel its magic and power.
Theatre of Senses creates performances engaging the audience. Such performances allow to feel the movements, touch, sounds and tastes more delicately, to hear the text, to feel the atmosphere and inter-human communication. Acting in a sensorial theatre gets a new meaning, since the action is meant not only for the eyes of the audience, but for all other senses as well. Also, a stage does not only mean a physical place – it transfers from a specific place into the mind of each participant.
